13-year-old Lola was nominated for TrinityTalent 2020 for her achievements in visual arts for her Discover Arts Award. Lola completed her Discover at Home Arts Award with Friction Arts Ltd and Arts Connect West Midlands and focused on using visual arts to portray her world.
Lola was nominated by her art form tutor Heather Wilson. Heather said: "Lola’s Arts Log was just…well amazing, vibrant and full of life; you could see that Lola had enjoyed the activities and had made her mark on the work. Lola’s creative flair is evident throughout - she puts her own spin on her work, which is often self-directed. She has the confidence to create these beautiful, imaginative visual artworks that give you a glimpse into her world - what is important to her."
The Trinity judges said: "It's evident that Lola personalises and injects her personal story into work so that others can engage. Lola doesn't follow conventional boundaries and has developed her own style, which is especially impressive when she's worked independently and had to find ways to be creative when not being directed."
How has your Trinity qualification influenced your creative flair?
It has improved my overall confidence and has inspired me to keep on working on my art and do my absolute best.
Has taking part in a Trinity qualification helped you to develop wider skills?
It introduced me to an array of different art forms and broadened my options when creating my own art.
Would you like to tell us anything about the challenges you’ve faced this year, and how you’ve overcome them to achieve your qualification?
When I first started the online lessons, I compared myself to other people. But, as I became more comfortable with the online lessons, I realised that everyone has their own, individual art style and you should never compare yourself to others and only focus on trying your best.
What are the next steps for you following your qualification?
I chose art and drama for my GCSE's and hope to master a few skills in both mediums.
What are your career aims?
I want to be an illustrator or a cartoonist.
