Trinity Talent | Dan O'Herlihy

Dan is celebrated in the TrinityTalent | Class of 2018 for Musical Achievement and Progress

Trinity Talent | Dan O'Herlihy

Dan has been nominated by music teacher Alicia Carroll for passing his Advanced Performance singing exam with Distinction. Alicia says he was not a natural singer when he first came to her in January 2017 and had no idea how to use his voice: “But he was extremely keen. It was evident I had a student who listened well, consistently practised. Due to sheer hard work, progress was made quickly. He took his Grade 8 in six months, just missing a Distinction, and immediately decided to study for the Advanced Performance Certificate.”

“In my 20 years of teaching I have been fortunate to work with many amazing young students,” adds his Alicia, “but I have never had a student who was so passionate to succeed against all odds.” Now doing a gap year, Dan is singing lay clerk at Bath Abbey and applying to Cambridge for a choral scholarship.

Dan says that doing the Advanced Performance Certificate with Trinity has improved his musicality and confidence immensely. “The preparation and delivery of a recital is a fantastic learning experience for any young performer,” he says.

Dan’s advice to other Trinity students?
“Don’t forget to enjoy the experience – music is an amazing way to release, and make sure to take pride in what you have achieved.”
