Top 10 Best Songs of 2024

Some of the world's biggest pop stars gave us amazing new music in the last 12 months. So with that in mind, we've polled our team to decide the best songs of 2024.

Top 10 Best Songs of 2024

It's Christmas, so most of our Spotify playlists are wall-to-wall Michael Bublé right now. However, for most of this year, that hasn't been the case. We've all been listening to the best songs of 2024 instead, making the most of a year that has brought us new music from some of the biggest stars in pop. The likes of Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, and Taylor Swift have all given us new music this year, while there has also been a country music explosion — partly thanks to Beyoncé stepping into the genre.

With so much brilliant listening material to choose from, it's tough to narrow down all of the songs into a playlist. Well, this December, we polled the Voice staff team and our Voice Contributors, as well as the wider Voice Community, to get an idea of which songs we should all be listening to. Here are the results, so get your dancing shoes on   and maybe your cowboy boots too.

10. Beautiful Things by Benson Boone

Benson Boone has referred to Beautiful Things as a ballad about the meaning of life and the volatility of happiness. We're not too sure about any of that, but it makes for an excellent sing-along session and sometimes that's all that matters.

If your criteria for a great track hinge around whether it's cathartic and satisfying to belt it out while driving to work, then you'd have to say that Beautiful Things comprehensively passes the test with flying colours.

8=. Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter

This really has been the year of Sabrina Carpenter, with Espresso clearly the song of the summer at the heart of her rise to the top. She opened for Taylor Swift on the Eras Tour and that only cemented her already meteoric journey to the summit of the pop music landscape.

Espresso is an intensely catchy tune and it's the ultimate example of Carpenter's style. She'll have plenty more hits to come but, for Carpenter, 2024 was full of anything but nonsense.

8=. All I Ever Asked by Rachel Chinouriri

Ivor Novello nominee Rachel Chinouriri made her big entrance into the mainstream this year with her debut album What a Devastating Turn of Events. Two of the tracks from that release have made it on to our 2024 list, starting with All I Ever Asked.

It's a catchy song about break-ups and finding self-worth. That's more than enough to get it on to our list of the best songs of 2024.

5=. A Bar Song (Tipsy) by Shaboozey

Unless you've been living under a rock all year, you'll have tapped your feet at least once to Shaboozey's country-inflected earworm A Bar Song. Over in the USA, it broke Old Town Road's record by spending 19 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and, on these shores, it was a number three hit.

This is a perfect party song with an absolute killer of a chorus, precision-tooled to be yelled along to while raising a glass of whatever beverage you can find nearby. In a top quality year for country music, Shaboozey found real success.

5=. 3am by Myles Smith

British-Jamaican artist Myles Smith has spent the last few years building up a following on TikTok and, in 2024, he made the jump to the mainstream. His breakout single Stargazing went to number four in the UK charts, but it's 3am that has made it on to our list of the most memorable songs released this year.

Smith's soulful vocals make this a fantastic track, not least due to its truly arena-worthy, anthemic chorus. Some songs are just made to be yelled through tears, and 3am is one of them.

5=. Cards on the Table by Nia Archives

Yorkshire-born performer Nia Archives has been credited with leading a resurgence in the world of drum and bass in the UK. She released her debut album this year, entitled Silence is Loud, with Cards on the Table emerging as the standout track.

Nia Archives got herself a Mercury Prize nomination this year for her album and anyone wanting to dip their toe into her new drum and bass world should click play above and have a listen to one of her best songs.

1=. Jesus Will by Sean Rodriguez

The first of four songs tied for top spot in our poll for the best song of 2024 is Jesus Will by the Christian pastor turned singer Sean Rodriguez. For one of our Local Reviewers, Naomi Johnson, there was a clear and obvious reason this should be crowned at the very top of our list.

Naomi said: "It really helped me when going through difficult times, especially when my Grandma passed away, remembering that I'm never alone."

1=. Strangers by Lewis Capaldi

Lewis Capaldi is an unshakeable powerhouse of modern music, delivering some of the most heartfelt and eloquent ballads of the last few years. Way back in January 2024, Capaldi surprised fans with an extended edition of his 2023 album Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent, complete with the new single Strangers.

This pained message to a former lover didn't match Capaldi's previous singles when it came to the charts, but Voice Editor Tom Beasley chose this as his favourite song of the year, writing: "This is another classic example of Capaldi's ability to combine intensely likeable pop music with deeply-felt emotion. He has decided to take an indefinite break from music, and this was a heck of a way to say goodbye."

1=. Never Need Me by Rachel Chinouriri

Chinouriri is back for her second entry on this list and, this time, she's right at the top. Never Need Me has an extra layer of cool factor for its music video, in which Oscar-nominated star Florence Pugh was recruited to play a key role. That's a key marker of quality, right?

Elisha Pearce, one of our Voice Contributors, wrote: "It was my most listened to 2024 release on Spotify Wrapped. It’s a pure bop just absolute pop perfection with super catchy lyrics."

1=. Angel of My Dreams by Jade

Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall released her debut single as a solo artist this year and she's soaring right to the top of this poll. It's a very personal piece of work for Jade, dealing with her experiences in the music industry since she and her pals rose to fame as winners of The X Factor way back in 2011.

The song was a top 10 hit in the UK and, for Voice Contributor Brogan Flowers, it was the best track of 2024. Jade will be hoping to continue to stick out from her former bandmates as her solo career continues.

What do you think of our list? Are there any great songs we missed out? We'll have to build a Spotify playlist in 2025 to catch up on them all.
