Ever wanted to see behind-the-scenes of a theatre? Now's your chance. Tours are being held at Theatre Royal Winchester on Saturay 7th September and you get to explore and experience all parts of the theatre.
One family tour runs at 9.30am with all ages welcome, where you will be able to discover the dressing rooms and backstage area. You'll be able to walk on stage and learn about lighting and scenery, and children will get to role-play being an usher. Visitors will hear about the jobs people do at the theatre, as well as learn about its history and the ghosts rumoured to haunt it.
Older children and adults can join a heritage tour at 12pm. As well as the dressing rooms, stage and auditorium, you will climb the fly tower – used to hang lighting, scenery and stage effects during a show – getting a whole new perspective, rarely seen by theatre-goers. Visitors will learn about the building’s history – once a hotel and then a cinema – and the ghosts. This tour involves steps but can be adapted, to an extent, for people with mobility issues.
Tickets are available to buy at the Box Office at Theatre Royal Winchester, by calling 01962 840 440, or visiting www.theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk.
