STRIVE: OPEN DAY FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

About this event

Starts: Saturday 30 January 2016 2:00 PM

Ends: Saturday 30 January 2016 5:00 PM

At: Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, London, SE1 8XX

Strive is Southbank Centre's year-round youth programme, taking advantage of the fact this is a creative festival site teeming with opportunities for young people to get involved.

Whether you're interested in trying something new, further exploring an artistic passion or embarking on a career in the arts, we have a range of inspiring opportunities for culture enthusiasts aged 15 to 25 to get involved in.

During our open day you can discover all the ways you can get involved at Southbank Centre, including:

Apprenticeships at Southbank Centre – this programme offers paid apprenticeships to young people aged 18 to 24 years.

Festival Makers – creative projects such as our forthcoming WOWsers scheme allow young people to produce their own events at our festivals.

Youth Ambassadors – this programme gives young people the opportunity to participate in the overall creation and programming of our festivals (re-opening in September 2016).

Southbank Centre's Monthly Mixers – drop-in sessions for young people who want to get creative, work with artists and try something different.

Poetry Library – sign up for your free membership and find out about readings and events for young people interested in poetry.

Tomorrow's Warriors – a leading jazz organisation providing opportunities for young musicians (ages 11 – 25) who are interested in playing jazz. Whether you currently play jazz or want to try it out, they would love to have you involved.

Since 1991, Tomorrow's Warriors has proved a hotbed for new jazz talent. Graduates of its programmes include Jason Yarde, Soweto Kinch, Julie Dexter and Denys Baptiste, with others having gone on to tour with international acts such as Rudimental, Zero 7, Skatalites, Laura Mvula and Adele. Visit their stand and see some of the musicians in action at their mini performance.

I work as the Network Administrator for Voice. Having completed my apprenticeship at Unit Twenty Three, I continue my work supporting Voice and the Youth Network in whatever way possible. Music is my passion, and I will happily talk about all the bands you've probably never heard of!
