Micro-Commissions Sharing - TAKEOVER Festival

About this event

Starts: Friday 3 August 2018 6:45 PM

Ends: Friday 3 August 2018 9:00 PM

Rich Mix Micro-Commission is a pilot artist development programme for east London based artists aged 16-25. With access to free rehearsal space, support from our producers and artistic mentors and a small pot of money, we invited artists to explore some of the ideas without prescribing a set outcome of producing a complete show.

The Micro-Commissions Sharing evening will be an opportunity for the artists to test some of the ideas they’ve been working on in an informal and supportive environment. We are hoping to start a conversation about what it means to make a locally rooted work, and how the community feel part of the creative process.

The work by Rich Mix Micro-Commission artists span live art, performance and collaborative devising, and include...

‘What if * never happened?’ by Loop’n’Link
During the Loop’n’Link Project,a team of performers, scenic designers, musicians, costume and props designers will devise and create a piece of theatre from scratch around the topic of Migration in East London.

‘Likkle Rum With Grandma’ by Malakai Sargeant and Jeremiah ‘SugarJ’ Brown
A journey over a generational bridge. This emotive piece of new writing effortlessly mixes poetry, storytelling and a Jamaican grandmother’s voice to bring to the forefront issues of loneliness, migration, what distance does to family love, and the waviness of Port. And, of course, there’s plenty of rum (for Jeremiah).

‘London is Vomit’ by Rosie Vincent
This piece explores the sickness of the city. This live art performance and exhibition celebrates the resilience and endurance of the urban body whilst questioning its happiness.

This event is part of TAKEOVER. A festival inspired by East London. The most exciting new talent created by you, for you. Check out the full line-up here.

A limited amounts of free tickets are available to Tower Hamlets residents and community groups, please contact [email protected] for more information. Any free tickets not collected 15 minutes prior to the start time will be released.
