đź“ŤCelebrate LGBT+ History Month with an engaging evening panel discussion at the Design District's Salon in North Greenwich.

🗣️ You will hear from a panel of three talented creatives who will share their experiences, challenges, and successes in celebrating and highlighting the queer community through their careers. You will also learn tips and gain insights on how to use your work to amplify queer voices, advocate for representation, and contribute to the creation of more inclusive spaces.

⏳There will be time for a Q&A with audience members.

👆Speakers

Daniel Chek-Shu Housley focuses on fashion & documentary photography, shaped by his own lived experience and exploring ideas of identity, sexuality and culture. For Daniel, photography is rooted in the dichotomy between naturalism and artificiality.

SharanDhaliwalfounded the UK’s leading South Asian culture magazine Burnt Roti, which is a platform for young creatives to showcase their talent, find safe spaces and destigmatise topics around mental health and sexuality, amongst others. She is also the Founder and co-Director of Middlesex Pride, an annual free family friendly event centering and celebrating the unheard LGBTQIA+ community in the heavily immigrant Middlesex area. She created Oh Queer Cupid, a queer speed dating and comedy night, and has had bylines in i-D, HuffPost, the Guardian and was on the list of global influential women for the BBC 100 Women 2019. She has also been on the Diva Power List 2022 & 2023, Attitude 101 2023 and nominated for Broadcast, Journalist or Host at the British LGBT Awards in 2023. Her debut non-fiction, Burning My Roti, about how her Asian identity and queerness came up against capitalism and white supremacy, came out in March 2022 by Hardie Grant.

Ross Willsheris an Essex commercial photographer with years of experience and expertise in photographing LGBTQ+ weddings across London and the UK. Drawing from his background in the charity and education sectors, Ross approaches each wedding with deep empathy, inclusivity, and care. His personal love for film and cinema influences his photography style, adding a storytelling element to each frame. In 2024 Ross published his words & photography book 'Celebrated'.

The Photography Foundation was created to provide pathways to professional photography for less advantaged young adults in London by offering education, practical experience, and routes to a career in the creative industries. The Photography Foundation acknowledges that commercial photography can be a stressful career and feel isolating at times. Our events are intended to promote wellbeing and the importance of making time for inspiration and creativity in your practice in order to maintain a sustainable career.

Partnership
For this event we are partnering with Design District's Salon space. When Design District launched in 2021, it set out to keep creativity – and the creative sector – at the heart of London. Today, Design District is home to more than 170 businesses and organisations spanning every creative discipline. The District offers workspaces of all scales, to suit every need – from workshops and individual desks to brand headquarters.

• Spaces are limited, if you can no longer attend, please request a refund for your ticket 48 hrs before the event via Eventbrite. If you request a ticket refund in less than 2 days before the scheduled event, you will be charged the full cost of the ticket, and you will not receive a refund.

• There is a small fee for this panel discussion, but if you feel unable to pay, please get in touch at [email protected] as we may have bursary spaces available upon remaining availability.
