Tyler, Silver Arts Award

Hi Tyler, tell us about your Arts Award experience

I've just completed my Silver Arts Award in dance. As part of my Award, I attended a dance performance called ‘to find a place'.

Did you work with an artist?

I attend a workshop with Nick Kyprianou, a professional dancer, and writer. The workshop was about how to write arts reviews and he taught us how to form and review a dance performance.

What did you do to lead your own project?

The project I was involved with was a dance platform. A dance platform is where different styles of dance come together to showcase their styles. The role I had was Marketing Manager and my responsibilities were to get the word out about the dance platform.

I designed a poster using the computer, which was displayed around Trinity Laban to make everyone aware of the event.

I made a program that was handed to the audience on the night of the event, with the details of the dancer’s names.

My role supported the development of my leadership skills as I had to communicate verbally with members of the public. I also had to be spontaneous on the night of the event

Great! How did you showcase your work in a portfolio

I created was a PowerPoint slide show.

What was most valuable to you personally?

The most valuable aspect I have learned was all of it! Learning new skills like how to create a portfolio, writing reviews, the science of dance and all about events management.

What inspired you?

The thing I found inspiring was learning about the number of different roles there are within the dance industry, especially the dance science.

What was challenging?

The most challenging aspect was putting the dance platform together and my time management to create my portfolio.

What are you going to do next and has Arts Award helped you?

I would like to do the Gold Arts Award and I have just started The Duke of Edinburgh Award.

How did you get involved with Arts Award?

I got involved in the Arts Award because I attend classes at Trinity Laban and I applied to do the Arts Award and was successful.

Who gave you the most help and inspiration?

My tutors Beth and Charlie were very inspirational as they gave me a lot of support and guidance.
