Get Gold with Mud 'n' Music

I'm sorry I skipped last month, first time since I started the series. But I hope those involved in our Youth Network training, Latitude and Edinburgh projects will know why!

Get Gold with Mud 'n' Music

Gender is an important issue and very contentious in the arts. Do we have enough females in management and technical roles? Do young men access dance in the numbers they should? Do 'creatives' portray the right body image in magazines? Many of the questions to debate and some wonderful views and articles from the team have explored all of this.

July's theme on Voice has been "Mud 'n' Music". I don't think I've seen an exploration of mud being used to decorate faces in true festival style, but there's certainly been plenty on the great range of music we have in our culture.

One of my favourite things about Arts Award is its framework approach. The idea and ability for those of us taking Arts Award to focus on our own expertise and creative endeavours and the criteria and requirements of Arts Award remain the same regardless. This means that you might extend your arts practice in Unit 1 Part A by combing street dance with classical music, or ballet with rap - anything goes.

So you can take your pick for musical styles, or indeed explore the visual arts of using mud. I really hope that you continue getting gold over the summer, making the most of a break away from school, college or university!
