Arts Inspiration- Emma Watson

For Part C of my Bronze Arts Award, I wrote about Emma Watson. She is one of my biggest inspirations. This blog is a summary of my research.

Arts Inspiration- Emma Watson

My arts inspiration is Emma Watson. Her full name is Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson and she was born on the 15th of April 1990, in Paris. Watson is a British actress, model and activist.

  • Emma Watson has acted in many films. These include: Beauty & the Beast, Harry Potter, The Circle and The Perks Of Being A Wallflower.
  • She is a model as well as an actress. Her work included campaigns for Burberry and Lancôme.
  • Watson is also a fashion consultant- she helped create a clothing line for People Tree.
  • Watson was honoured by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in 2014, winning for British Artist of the Year.
  • Also in 2014, Watson was appointed as UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, she helped launch the UN Women campaign HeForShe, which calls for men to advocate gender equality.
  • In 1999, casting began for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the film adaptation of British author J. K. Rowling's best-selling novel. Casting agents found Watson through her Oxford theatre teacher, and producers were impressed by her confidence.
  • Something I love about Emma Watson is that she only picks roles that she connects with. For example, it was reported that Watson was offered the role of Cinderella because the fairy tale character was not a suitably empowered role model. A while later, Watson appeared as Belle in Beauty & the Beast. She said of the character: "There's this kind of outsider quality that Belle had, and the fact she had this really empowering defiance of what was expected of her."
  • Watson's first non-Potter role was the 2007 BBC film Ballet Shoes, an adaptation of the novel of the same title by Noel Streatfeild. The film's director, Sandra Goldbacher, commented that Watson was "perfect" for the starring role of aspiring actress Pauline Fossil: "She has a piercing, delicate aura that makes you want to gaze and gaze at her."

Overall, Emma Watson is a big inspiration to me because the characters which she often portrays are excellent role models for girls around the world. She has achieved a lot so far, and I'm sure there's more to come.
