Be A Lady They Said

“Be a lady they said. Don’t be too fat. Don’t be too thin. Don’t be too large. Don’t be too small.”

Be A Lady They Said

‘Be a Lady They Said’ surged in internet popularity following Cynthia Nixon’s spoken word rendition for Girls Girls Girls Magazine. This video brings to life the powerful words from the poem written by 22-year-old Camille Rainville. ‘Be a Lady They Said’ challenges societal expectations of women, and is not an attack on any gender but rather a collection of things many women are told their entire lives.

What do you think? How many of these things have you heard?

Camille Rainville’s full poem was first published on her personal blog here.
