A few words about LGBT history month...

As an artist active in the music industry today, I recognise the importance of LGBT artists who have come before me, and those with whom I share the stage today. Let's celebrate them!

A few words about LGBT history month...

With TJ. Osbourne coming out making him the first openly gay country music performer signed to a major label, music history has been made. But let's celebrate some of the other guys, gays and theys on the scene today!

Sam Smith is an artist who is very close to my heart. I covered their track 'How Do You Sleep' on my Youtube channel a while back, and since then, the amazing singer came out as non-binary. I remember seeing and sharing their post like it was yesterday! It's so important to look out for non-binary people at the moment - they are in the news so much at the moment with so many debates being held about their legitimacy! Just let people be!

Dorian Electra is a genderless drag king whose latest album included cameos from everyone to Rebecca Black to the Village People to Pussy Riot - sometimes within the same song! I loved their album MY AGENDA from 2020, it's one I blast when I need a burst of energy!

Halsey is a phenomenal vocalist who sings and raps in the indie pop genre, and she's one of my favourites! She is an out bisexual woman who sings about her attractions to people of all genders, and she's definitely made it big. Congratulations Halsey!

A post on the LGBT scene in music today wouldn't be complete without mention of SOPHIE. The hyperpop producer and transwoman whose debut solo album OIL OF EVERY PEARL’S UNSIDES was an underground success was set to propel her into the mainstream before her tragic death earlier this year. She died whilst trying to climb onto the roof to look at the full moon.

This list is by no means exhaustive, but I do think it covers some of my favourite LGBT artists on the scene today. I hope you've all had a happy month and listening to lots of queer and colourful tunes!

'Til next time,

xo, Allegra
