Summer is over! If you are super sad about this - don’t be! The days getting darker earlier is just the perfect excuse to curl up in front of a fire with a cup of tea and wait out the darkness until the spring! But, of course, you must be doing things in the evenings to look after yourself while you settle into full hermit mode. Here are some of the things I enjoy doing to make sure I still feel re-energised and restored even without the sunshine!
STEP ONE: MUSIC
As you all already know, music is my life. That doesn’t change with the seasons! Although, in the evenings I enjoy playing music that is more chill, like some soulful tunes, or more chilled out hip hop or rap. It really sets the mood!
STEP TWO: CANDLES/INCENSE
This really turns on the atmosphere - get ready for pure bliss as you sink into beautiful scents. I recommend a vanilla flavoured candle or some Nag Champa incense to feel like the queen you are!
STEP THREE: FACE MASKS
Let’s be honest, we don’t do these as much as our faces probably deserve. But if you want to beat the drying cold weather, skincare is an essential part of any self-care routine. Save up to get a natural one from Lush or The Body Shop, or just combine some of your fridge and pantry ingredients to make your own!
STEP FOUR: NO MORE SCREENS
It can be tempting to scroll away into the wee hours of the morning, but resist! I’m not always perfect at this, but I try to switch off my screens an hour before I go to sleep. I read a book or do some stretching instead.
STEP FIVE: GET AN EARLY NIGHT
Another one I’m not so great at! I always try to get at least seven hours’ sleep, something which is even more important in the winter months because less sunshine = more sleepiness! I promise you’ll be glad you did it in the morning.
