My Review Of Unit 2

This is my review of how my Arts Award, Unit 2 went - Hope you enjoy!

How It Went...

We did come across some problems whilst doing our arts challenge, but over all I think it went really well. I was very lucky to have the people who I had in my group, because I know that a few of the other Silver Arts Award students struggled more with there group because they were quite miss behaved - but my group worked really well. I had one less person than everyone else because Lucas, one of the people in my group, was only here for the first half of one lesson then wasn't here for the rest. However, it worked quite well because then the two boys could work together, and so could the two girls. We finished the project with two very good models that in my opinion, looked really good! I was really happy that the whole of my team cooperated really well together and truly worked hard and wanted to do it. I was really happy with the end products and so was the group, there was quite a lot of competitiveness between them and the other groups because they wanted to win of course!

How I Worked With Others...

During when we did the lessons, every now and again the silver arts award students would come together and have a quick short meeting about how things were going, if we need to change anything and how well our groups were getting on. We did this so we made sure everyone was on track and we were all doing the same things and weren't too far ahead or behind each other. On the second lesson, we had a meeting where we decided to push back when we were going to be using the mod -rock to the week after because we were short on time. Apart from that, we never really took action on anything we said in our meetings but they were very useful to see how well I was doing in comparison to everyone else. I think all the Silver Arts Award students worked really well together, we are all friends and if we had any problems in the lesson we would've told each other and sorted it out!

How We Solved Our Problems...

The biggest problem we faced as a whole group was time management. Originally, we planned to take three lessons to make our models. The first lesson we would design then cut the cardboard and make the structure of it. The second lesson we would use the mod rock to make the actual models. And the third lesson we would paint them the colour of our group (for me it was green). However, we didn't finish making the cardboard structure for the mod-rock people in he first lesson so we had to finish it in the second-but by the time we had finished there wasn't enough time to do it in that lesson so we did it in the third (last) lesson we had instead. But this meant that we had to finish and paint the mod-rock people in one of year 5's intervention slots instead.

Collecting Feedback...

I collected feedback by giving all of the people in my group a post-it-note at the end of every lesson to write on it how they found me, what they learnt in that lesson and if they enjoyed it. The girls- Cleo and Bea were very good at this and wrote quite a lot, however, the boys were more hesitant to writing it and didn't put anywhere as near as the girls did, but I did know that they really enjoyed doing it and found it really fun because they told me! I put the post-it-notes on my 'Evidence of Unit 2' sheet.

How Good I Was With The Group...

I think I was quite good with the group, if they had any questions I answered them and said what they had to do. I did speak in front of the whole class and the start of the last lesson too and I do the think I made it quite clear to them, but, I do still much prefer talking to just my group. At the start one of my targets was to speak confidently and clearly in front of my group an I would say I did that!

What Leadership Skills Were You Working On And How Were They Improved...

Before starting the Unit 2 project, I wanted to work on my confidence of talking to my group and speaking clearly to them. I worked on this by doing it over and over again. Luckily, my group listened to me, so as time went on I found it easier and easier to talk to them. They did ask some questions but I answered them so that they knew what they were doing. Now, I find it much easier to talk to groups this project has grown my confidence in it!

Unit 2 and it has been one of my favourite parts of arts award, I really enjoyed doing it!
