My main/old art form was painting and from this I developed and learnt my new art form which was silk painting. For my 'final' artistic challenge I chose to combine painting and silk painting because the effect of the silk and textures really interest me and therefore I wanted to preserve the textures and yet paint on a canvas because this is my chosen surface. I spent quite a lot of time getting used to the materials and experimenting however, after experimenting I decided to apply my silk paintings to my canvas and paint around them so that the sole focus will be on the silk painting. I have come to conclusion that the silk painting has also influenced my old art form because I have become more tentative with how I am applying the paint.
The final piece is inspired by the great pieces of artwork from the renaissance. The 2 silk paintings are influenced by 2 famous paintings which I adapted into a circular shape. I then painted the background in colours which link to the renaissance and designs of flowers and nature which was inspired by William Morris' wallpaper designs. I am pleased with how it turned out and the new skills I have learnt through the process.
