Week 2; Devising - Making Something New

I used lots of different items and objects to make different sounds and noises. It involved using items such as: pens, scraper, a wire rack, a tube filled with metal pieces, feather duster and ripping up paper.

The object was to make a performance simulating a shipwreck, and devise the noise of the sea, sailors, weather and environment in the first two chapters of a story.

I started out making the noise for little drops of rain. I did this by tapping a pen on the floor. I made the sound of waves by flapping material. I tapped harder to make the rain louder, I put paper on the material to make the waves harder. I ripped a page and all havoc was unleashed, the tapped was really hard and often. I forcefully hit the ground with the feather duster to make the waves hit against the boat. All the items were then put on the material to exaggerate the sounds of the storm. I stopped making the loud noises and quietly made a gentle flapping with the material to show that the storm was over and the waves were calm.

I enjoyed making the sounds as it did sound like a raging storm. I learnt that any objects can be used in a performance. My skills improved as the sounds I made did really sound like they were part of a storm.
