Dance Workshop

For my silver arts award, I decided to choreograph a dance with a friend and teach it to overall sixty people. I chose dance as it is one of my passions and I had never tried to teach someone else a dance before. Therefore, I felt that leading this workshop would help me improve my confidence and my nerves of standing in front of my peers. At the beginning of the workshop we started with a warm-up; didn't want any injuries! Then we started teaching the dance step by step until everybody was comfortable with the whole performance. I felt good seeing people performing my choreography, as it was physical evidence of my hard work. The hardest thing was keeping control of everybody, especially the ones who weren't so keen on dance. It was hard teaching a routine and having to tell people to stop talking simultaneously, however, by the end, everybody co-operated with my myself and my friend who was leading it with me. The thing I enjoyed most was teaching the dance and being able to help anybody who was stuck on some of the more complex moves. By the end I felt more confidence in myself, I felt happier standing at the front of the group and instructing people instead of following instructions. Similarly, I was happy to watch the dance and see most people making no mistakes, dancing on the beat and looking happy. So thank you arts award for the opportunity to do this!
