Introducing: #TBT

Because nostalgia is all the rage

Introducing: #TBT

Having recently turned 23, I caught myself thinking that I'm well into my third decade alive on Earth, and in this time it feels like I am already watching certain parts of society repeat itself. It feels like everything nowadays is either a remake, a reboot or a spin-off. While it is incredibly easy to cast it off as a lack of creativity on behalf of the industry, the fact remains that it happens because people love nostalgia.

Whether people are recapturing their own childhood through LEGO games and films, finding an excuse to nerd out again with every new Star Wars release, or waiting for the inevitable Spider-man reboot when Sony once again write themselves into a corner, everything inevitably comes back around, even when they shouldn't -- looking at you Yooka-Laylee!

While Voice always aims to be forward facing, offering an insight into the latest and greatest, even we aren't immune from nostalgia.

You could say we have just gone through a reboot of our own, with an all new look and feel but the same fantastic content. We are the Batman Begins or Casino Royale of reboots, more mature and considered and other words that give us an air of authority. However, we are still young at heart, with very fond memories of aspects of our childhood that undoubtedly shaped us into who we are today.

What I am ambling towards here is that we are introducing a new feature on Voice, which is a reboot of an old one - #TBT. For those not in the know, that stands for Throwback Thursday, and very much takes inspiration from the social media trend of sharing old posts or pictures specifically on a Thursday.

The reboot in question comes from what could by all accounts be considered a vanity series I started way back when called From the Vault, where I basically wrote about old things I like.

The premise of #TBT will remain consistent with that, but it will be opened up for the whole team to get their nostalgia on in a major way, and write about early art or culture memories they still hold dear. We will be looking at video games, albums, films, books, or any other cultural paraphernalia.

The first few weeks will be an Inception style affair where old From The Vault posts get posted, but with new polish, focus and finesse that younger Tom lacked. A throwback of a throwback if you will.

So set a reminder and come join us every Thursday for a blast of the 90s and early 00's!
