I had to make a decision about how to play each character in the play. We decided to cut Gonzalo, as he's not that important to the main storyline and trim down some of the crew from the ship that Prospero directs to the island in a storm. I decided that using shadow puppets would help portray some of the other characters in the play, as there is only me! And for speed and ease I can just pick them up. I wanted something a bit more for Caliban as he's a main character, so I chose to make a sock puppet of him. King Alonso, Sebastain and Antonio will be shadow puppets and there may need to be other shadow pupets to represent some of the other characters, when I can't physically be all of them. For Miranda, my mum and I thought a nice long wig might work, as well as a doll to show her as a baby. Prospero will have his magic staff. Ariel will have wings because he's a spirit and Trinculo the clown can have a Jester's hat. He and Stephano are comedy parts, so I will give Stephano a big tankard, as he's always drinking! I can just be me for the part of Ferdinand.I've realised it's going to be quite tricky juggling all of the characters in the play at the same time. I will need to rehearse alot.
