INTERVIEW: Livvy Lauren Talks Songwriting, R&B, And Filming A Music Video In New York

Your new single ‘Felt Love’ is described as a dance-floor filler that explores the thrill of newfound romantic connections and dancing in a club. What impact do you hope this will have on listeners?

I really want ‘Felt Love’ to be a track that people can vibe to, feel uplifted by and lose themselves in, whether they’re on the dance floor or anywhere really! I also really hope that people can connect with the lyrics and concept of the song, and relate to that feeling of excitement you get when you’re with someone that you connect with! It’s all about capturing the energy of living in the moment - whether it’s dancing with someone new or simply letting go and feeling the music.

To any new listeners and fans, how would you describe your overall sound?

I would describe my sound as a blend of energetic pop with influences from dance music and R&B. It’s music that makes you want to move, but also connects on a deeper level with themes of love, life and those unforgettable moments we all experience! My goal is to create tracks that feel fresh and original with catchy melodies and meaningful lyrics that resonate with people from all walks of life. For anyone new listening to my music - If you’re having a down day, play a bit of Livvy Lauren and it should instantly make you feel better!

What song instantly gets you on the dancefloor?

I LOVE dancing to any kind of old school R&B and new afro-beat hits! As soon as Rihanna or Tyla come on, I’m in the middle of the dance-floor and you can’t get me off haha! Currently I’d say “Jump” by Tyla is my go to!

Prior to its release, ‘Felt Love’ was featured on the UK’s favourite dating show, ‘Love Island’ - which attracts an audience of millions! How do you think the track reflects the vibe of the show?

Hearing “Felt Love’ on Love Island was such a surreal moment for me! As soon as I created the demo for the track, I instantly thought of Love Island and told my managers to send it off to their producers! I think the song just perfectly reflects the show - it’s all about excitement, attraction, and living in the moment - just like the Love Island experience! I think the song’s upbeat, danceable and fun energy reflects the vibrant setting of the villa, where emotions and relationships develop quickly! This worked so well for the Casa Amor scene!

What is your usual songwriting process, and where do you draw creative inspiration from?

Songwriting for me is so dependent on my mood and how I am feeling at that stage in my life in general. Sometimes I walk into the studio and can write a full song in 30 minutes, and other times you can be in there for hours and walk away with a song that you would never want to hear again aha!! I am so fortunate to work alongside some incredible producers and songwriters who know me really well! They know all about my past, my relationships, my struggles and my success’, so when it comes to writing together this makes the process so much easier! I always start with the chords, and once we have a chord progression that I love and connect with, I just start singing anything over the top! Typically the lyrics I randomly start spilling always link to how I am feeling that day, so I always base the song around those feelings because it’s how I can present myself as an artist in the truest and most honest way. Once we get the melodies right, thats when we focus more on the lyrics and how to be a bit more creative and storytelling with them. My biggest influences are artists like Ella Henderson, Tate McRae, Zara Larsson and Jorja Smith, all for different reasons.

Do you have any other passions besides music?

Growing up, I never knew I wanted to become a music artist! I actually did a lot of acting as a child, all the way through to when I was at Uni training in Musical Theatre! The blend of both acting and music made me feel alive and energised, so hopefully one day, maybe my music career may also lead me into a potential acting job in the future!! I also love sport - due to my ADHD, it takes a lot for me to burn off energy, and my brain doesn’t function properly unless I exercise, so the gym and sports activities are so important for me.

The accompanying visualiser for ‘Felt Love’ was shot in New York - what was it like to film in such an iconic city, and how do you feel it highlights the track’s uplifting, energetic sound?

Filming the visualiser for ‘’Felt Love’  in New York was an incredible experience. The city's energy is honestly like no other—it's fast-paced, vibrant, and full of life, which I think really mirrors the overall vibe of the track. Being surrounded by iconic landmarks and the buzzing streets gave the shoot this raw, fun and edgy feel that felt right for the song’s uplifting and energetic sound. The city lights, and the buzz of Times Square was the perfect backdrop to emphasise the excitement and rush of emotions that the track is all about. It was a dream to bring that energy to life in such a legendary city!!

As a teaser for new fans, could you describe your next release in just three words?

Oooo good question, my next personal release can be described as deep, empowering & wild.
