WaterBear, the College of Music, is gearing up for its highly anticipated Freshers Week (16-20 September), welcoming new and current students across its vibrant Brighton and Sheffield campuses.

Freshers Week promises to be an unforgettable experience for new students, with six live music events spread over five action-packed days. Headlining the live music fresher events are major UK artists including Cassyette, Alfie Jukes, Lily Knott, Wargasm, Window Kid and Girli.

WaterBear is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of music industry talent and is offering invaluable support slot opportunities to new and existing students, providing real-world experiences and opportunities for career growth.

WaterBear's Brighton campus is set to come alive with electrifying performances and unforgettable events during Freshers Week. Anticipated events throughout the week include:

Monday, 16th September @ WaterBear Venue – Grin & Bear It with Lily Knott Kicking off Freshers Week at its very own WaterBear Venue, the Grin & Bear It showcase, run by WaterBear student promoters, will feature the incredible talent of WaterBear artists and bands, headlined by Lily Knott. An alumna of WaterBear, Lily supported Noel Gallagher last year at the 'On the Beach' festival and has been crowned both 'Artist of the Week' and 'Track of the Week' by BBC Introducing. Also sharing the stage for the ‘Grin & Bear It’ event will be, WaterBear musicians, Joe BradwellMcEvoy and Tia Ice.

One other lucky WaterBear student will have the opportunity to join the bill for this opening night extravaganza.

Wednesday, 18th September @ WaterBear Venue – Alfie Jukes

Midweek, the spotlight turns to indie-pop sensation Alfie Jukes. Bursting onto the scene in 2022 with his hit "Spiderwebs", Alfie has quickly gained a massive following. His debut EP "Little Omens" led to a sold-out UK headline tour and a European tour supporting Only The Poets.

WaterBear students will also have the chance to shine with two support slots available for this show.

Thursday, 19th September @ Concorde 2 – Cassyette

As Freshers Week nears its climax, students can be prepared for a high-energy night with Cassyette at the iconic Concorde 2. Known for her 'Nu-gen' sound—a futuristic blend of metal, punk, alt pop, screamo, and electronic dance—Cassyette has been hailed as "a modern alternative icon”.

Two support slots are available for WaterBear students to showcase their talents alongside this trailblazing artist.

Tuesday, 17th September @ Corporation – Wargasm

There will be an intense night of electronic rock/nu metal/post-hardcore with the dynamic duo Wargasm. Having spent the last few years touring with major acts like Neck Deep and Limp Bizkit, Wargasm has built a formidable reputation. Their new single "70% Dead”, featuring Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor, is making waves, and their live performance is sure to be a high-octane experience.

Two support slots are open for WaterBear students ready to rock alongside these trailblazers.

Wednesday, 18th September @ Corporation – Girli

Kicking off the week at Corporation, the fiercely unique Girli will take the stage. Known for her outspoken approach to pop music, Girli has cultivated a dedicated online fan base and received acclaim from i-D, Vogue, Dazed, Notion, and Wonderland. Her music blends future pop, electronic cyber-noise, and a rebellious punk spirit with empowering girl power messages.

WaterBear students will also have the opportunity to perform, with two support slots available for this electrifying opening night.

Thursday, 19th September @ Corporation – Window Kid

Closing out the week with a bang, Window Kid will bring his infectiously fun style to Corporation. As a rising star in the UK MC scene, Window Kid has become known for his lively personality and class clown attitude, all while showcasing immense talent. Having toured extensively over the past year, he has cemented his place as a beloved voice in the grime and dubstep communities.

The night will also feature performances from a stellar lineup of current WaterBear students including ArcJay HargreavesJonny HileyKid-Blu3LingzOpium and Skade.

One other lucky WaterBear student will have the chance to join this incredible lineup.

We have incredible performance opportunities in both Brighton and Sheffield for our musicians to support the likes of Wargasm, Cassyette, Alfie Jukes, Lily Knott, Girli, and Window Kid. We're very excited to meet our new freshers’ musicians, and even more excited to see them play!

“WaterBear is committed to providing an inclusive and immersive experience for all students, including those enrolled in our online degree courses. Online freshers won't miss out on the excitement, as both Brighton freshers’ events on Monday 16th September (with Lily Knott) and Wednesday 18th September (with Alfie Jukes), will be live streamed from our WaterBear Venue.”
