The singer has now unveiled a captivating new reinterpretation, 'Universe (Mil Jaana Tu), featuring songwriter and composer Denny. With several translations released and more on the way, we caught up with Rosa about adapting the song into Hindi, how her Armenian heritage inspires her, and touring alongside Ed Sheeran...
Your Hindi rendition of ‘Universe’ was released recently alongside songwriter and composer Denny. How did this collaboration come about?
I wanted to make “Universe” universal. So we decided to duet with artists around the world in their native languages. We couldn’t not do a Hindi version, cause I have so much support from the fans in India. I’m glad I got to work with Denny on this was, he is a very talented artist and also a great human being!
What can fans expect from the Hindi version of ‘Universe’, and how does it differ to previous renditions?
Well, I sing in Hindi for the first time in my life. We added some traditional Indian instruments in this version which made it special.
Can you tell us about the process of creating this version?
We did a zoom call with Denny, both of us were very excited about this collaboration. He did a great job translating the song and adding the right amount of Indian flavor to it. I recorded my vocals when I was in Italy. I would send Denny voice memos of my takes, so he could check the pronunciation. It was super fun.
What was it like to adapt ‘Universe’ into Hindi?
I never sang in Hindi, and I don’t know the language, so I was a little nervous. I didn’t know if the song would sound good in Hindi. But Denny made a beautiful version and made sure I sang all the lyrics right!
Your journey to international stardom is remarkable. Can you share some key moments that shaped your career?
Obviously Eurovision was the start of everything. Snap going viral in 2022 absolutely changed my life. My personal favorite was touring with Ed Sheeran. That was insane to go on my first ever tour with him and sing in the stadiums. That was a dream and still is!
How has your Armenian heritage influenced your music?
I think it influenced my lyrics more. Growing up in the Armenian culture made me who I am, so my mentality is different, my lifestyle and views and values are different, I think that all translates into my lyrics.
What music currently inspires you?
I listen to a lot of 70s, 80s and 90s. I love listening to songs in different languages, even if I don’t understand the lyrics.
I’m an old soul, so I don’t even know what’s on new music Friday or on charts right now.
What advice would you give to aspiring artists from small towns with big dreams?
Just keep doing what they love, work hard and stay true to themselves. You never know what’s around the corner.
