At an exclusive launch event at Birmingham’s latest venue, the Black Box Theatre, director (artistic) Clayton Lee has revealed the line-up of live artists and performers set to take over the city centre in October.
Fierce Festival 2024 will bring together over 15 productions from 9 countries for a week of truly unforgettable, boundary-pushing performances in what is set to be a daring and exuberant experience. Many events are free and passes are also on sale that provide access to the full programme for a reduced price.
This year’s line-up features husbands as artists in residence: a sibling duo taking over the city with a series of pop-up micro performances and interventions throughout the festival.
Selina Thompson returns to Fierce with Twine which explores themes of family, love and loneliness and the ways in which one just one moment can transform multiple generations.
Dana Michel also returns to Fierce with durational performance MIKE, which explores new meanings and purposes through found objects. MIKE revolves around work culture and self-respect and explores the question ‘is it possible to live public lives that reflect our inner selves?’.
Fierce newcomers for this year include Harald Beharie with Batty Bwoy: a bold solo performance exploring the intersections between queer and Jamaican culture and Alina Arshi with Entepfuhl: a bite-sized dance performance heavily influenced by the performers travels through India in the summer of 2022.
