Blossoms - The Sulking Poet

Blossoms are without doubt Stockport’s finest. Their new single ‘The Sulking Poet’ marks a more adventurous era for the band whilst staying close to the 80s inspired synth-pop roots that catapulted them into fame. The track features infectious guitar hooks and tuneful vocals, something Blossoms have become known for. ‘The Sulking Poet’ is a prime example of a brilliant pop song, it’s uncomplicated yet well-layered whilst the chorus will stick in your head for days to come, its repetitive lines such as “oh la la, Juliet” that makes the track impossible to erase from your memory. It’s the perfect tune for stepping into spring and summer and has the power to make even the most reluctant move.

James Bay - Give Me The Reason

James Bay returns to his roots with ‘Give Me The Reason’. After the release of his debut album ‘Chaos and the Calm’ in 2014 and his follow up album ‘Electric Light’ in 2018 James Bay has performed all over the world. It seems in 2022 James has opted for the more stripped back approach with an acoustic guitar, heartfelt lyrics and minimal production – something that fans of the first album will be delighted to hear. Due to the song’s more raw edge it feels incredibly intimate and almost as if it was written solely for the listener, creating a connection between them and James himself. That’s something that’s incredibly hard to achieve, making it worth checking out!

FAERS - Alive

FAERS were formed in Uxbridge in 2015 and now the band are embracing their electronic side with new track ‘Alive’. The song has a striking bedroom indie pop feel combined with an electronic soundscape, creating something truly unique that would still sit comfortably on commercial radio. Penned in lockdown, the track embodies the freedom of music, pulling the listener into an indie-fuelled trance that’s addictive and unfamiliar. The chorus instantly hits you as something that will soundtrack the lives of many teenagers at indie nights for years to come – a real future classic!

GUISE ft Emily Barker - I Know When You Leave

London four-piece GUISE are joined by singer-songwriter Emily Barker for this stunning almost acapella new single. A piano joins the ensemble in small bursts throughout, but the main focal point is certainly the emotive lyrics and vocal performance. This makes it stand out to the rest, as the listener really needs to invest to appreciate the beauty of its stripped-back melody and gorgeous harmonies. Talking about the track, frontwoman Jessica Guise explains “I wrote the words to ‘I Know When You Leave’ on a bus in Italy, and the tune came to me later back in London, Separation from the person I love is a pretty normal part of my life, but that doesn’t make it easy all the time; things are generally just a bit worse when we’re apart, and that’s what this is about.”

Wylderness - Centre of Gravity

Returning with their first bout of new music in four years, Cardiff outfit Wylderness have released their Strokes-esce new single Centre of Gravity. If you’re a fan of the New York shoegaze scene or are in the market for something a bit more spacey (both in soundscape and subject. The lyrics were inspired by the first picture of a black hole after all) to add to your playlist then ‘Centre of Gravity’ is definitely a track you should be getting onboard with. Talking about the new single Wylderness explained “This song shows our leanings towards Parquet Courts and the noisier elements of Yo La Tengo. We wanted our first song back to be punchy and to the point, so this was chosen as the lead single for the album and the opener for side two.”
